Copywriting for Your Website – Step 3

As a company offering search engine marketing in the Bristol area, we often think about the amount of money wasted by local small businesses on ineffective advertising.

You might wonder what connection I am making between website copywriting and advertising. Well, why does any business publish online content?

  • You need to attract attention and make people aware of the benefits of doing business with you;
  • You then need to transform that attention into revenue or some other measurable benefit.

Doesn’t that sound like what advertising is supposed to do, but doesn’t do so well anymore?

The fact is, high quality content is the most effective form of website advertising and ironically, to be considered great content, it can’t look anything like what you might consider is advertising. But quality content does need to naturally demonstrate that you’re knowledgeable about your field of expertise and that’s why it works so well.

Think about it, the advertising you are best able to tolerate is often witty and entertaining, but it doesn’t persuade you to do anything. In contrast, even comparatively dry content that provides beneficial information has more promotional value than most fashionable television adverts.

So what if you make that “dry” content a bit theatrical? This is where skillful copywriting can reach more people who need the information and at the same time exponentially enhance the return on a relatively small investment.

What is needed is a bit more imagination, creativity, and strategic thinking, so why not make a fresh start to your marketing this year by moving from traditional advertising to website advertising and marketing?
